Citizenship Show for Primary Schools

The Messy Pirate!

“For the second year running we have been treated to a totally unique and brilliant performance by the MOMO Theatre. Children and adults were kept absolutely enthralled by the antics of the two actors. In 25 years of Headship I have never seen anything that was so funny and yet so clever in getting such an important message across.”
- Jenny Evans, Headteacher, The Havers School, East Hertfordshire

What's it about?

Sharing the places we live – Litter – Chewing gum – Being noisy – Vandalism – Being considerate

What's it like?

Imagine Laurel and Hardy as pirates on a very small ship! The pirate captain is very inconsiderate and keeps annoying his crew with his selfish messiness and noisiness. But when he can’t even look after the crew’s sports equipment he faces a mutiny!

During the show, visual jokes and memorable characters are used to demonstrate unfamiliar ideas. The simple analogy of the cramped pirate ship lets children understand the problems of sharing a living space.

In a detailed discussion after the show, children are encouraged to think about how the pirate should have behaved and about what places they share with other people.
